Thursday: Protest outside Israel Consulate

A gathering of protest and pain will be held tomorrow, Thursday, outside the Israeli consulate, to express our sorrow and anguish over Churban Azza, the expulsion of thousands of Jews from their homes and destruction of thriving Jewish communities.  The rally is being held on Chof Av, the yahrtzeit of the Rebbe's father, R. Levi Yitzchak Schneerson.  In a sicha of Chof Av, 5739, the Rebbe referred to the chinuch his father gave him, never to be silent when lives are at stake.  The rally will be held Thursday evening, 20 Menachem Av, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM outside the Israeli Consulate at the corner of 42nd St. and 2nd Ave.

The Rebbe taught us that when it hurts, you scream! The tragedies of this past week are very painful, especially to the Chabad community which consistently showed opposition and resistance to the evil plan which has now been perpetrated. has recorded our actions, from special prayer services, to breaking through barriers.

But now we are in pain and the Rebbe said to cry out. In a Sicha of the 20th of Av, 5739, the Rebbe said, “It is absolutely irrelevant whether the protest will or will not be effective. The reason for crying out is not based on the assumption that it will be effective, but rather because the situation is painful.”

If we do not cry out in public, the world will assume we are complacent, while our brethren are left homeless and without livelihood.

Thursday is the 20th of Av – the day the Rebbe said to cry out – a rally is being held to express our outrage is being held at the Israeli Consulate, 42nd Street and 2nd Avenue, 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The expulsions of this week are only the beginning of what is planned, we need to make sure it is the beginning of the end of such atrocities
